Twofour's highly successful series Through Hell and High Water has won the prestigious RTS Award for Best Daytime programme beating Channel 4's The New Paul O'Grady Show and ITV's This Morning. Melanie Leach, Managing Director of Twofour Broadcast joined BBC Controller of Daytime and Early Peak, Jay Hunt, to collect the award at a glittering television event, hosted by ITV1 news anchor Mark Austin, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London last night (13 March 2007).
The programme was described by the RTS judges as: "A genuinely unique, standout series for daytime, following an extraordinary journey. It was funny, moving and passionate, and was beautifully produced. If it played out in primetime it would have been watched by millions..."
Through Hell High and Water, a six part series for BBC Daytime, tracked TV presenter Ben Fogle and double Olympic rowing champion James Cracknell as they took on one of the world's greatest challenges - the Atlantic Rowing Race. During their struggle to cross 3000 miles in a 24ft rowing boat they are seen with no electricity, unable to make water and about to face the worst the Atlantic can throw at them.
Melanie Leach said: "Winning an RTS award is a tremendous achievement and it is great that the programming talent we have here in the Plymouth is being recognised nationally. Through Hell and High Water charted an amazing physical and emotional journey and we are very proud the series proved to be so popular with audiences and critics alike."
