The Bowland Trust has commissioned Twofour to produce two new case studies for Bowland Round 2
Twofour

Twofour has beaten off stiff competition to win two more commissions from the Bowland Trust. They have selected Mission: Rainforest and Torbury Festival with The Siege a possible for the future. The online learning resources are designed to make maths fun for key stage 3 pupils (ages 11-14) and require pupils to perform mathematical tasks to progress through an adventure.

Mission: Rainforest is set deep in a tropical rainforest, where a small team of undercover environmentalists is on a mission to investigate and expose the illegal activities being carried out by a multinational logging organisation, Log Inc, and the deforestation that is destroying the planet. Students will take on the dangerous mission of the environmentalists and will need to use all their cunning and intelligence to monitor the extent of the damage whilst evading detection and collecting evidence for UN international inspectors.

Torbury Festival will be a virtual festival experience, challenging students to pull off a musical extraganza despite torrential downpours, rampaging cattle and the outrageous demands of the performers themselves. Pupils will be faced with mathematical problems such as budgeting to afford the requests for a lifetime’s supply of jellybeans and icecream on the artists’ riders and working out exactly how to keep the festival from being submerged in flood water. They must work together to make sure that Torbury becomes the festival to rival Glastonbury rather than a washed out flop!

The first Bowland Maths, for which Twofour produced a case study called Aliens, has been announced as a finalist for the BETT 2010 awards – in the Secondary, FE & Skills Digital content category.
